How do you cancel a fitness or calorie app subscription?
Subscriptions are cancelled in the store, not in the app. On iPhone: Settings → your name at the top → Subscriptions → pick the app → Cancel Subscription. On Android: Play Store → profile icon (top right) → Payments and subscriptions → Subscriptions → pick the app → Cancel subscription.
Deleting the app from your phone does not cancel anything; billing continues. After cancelling you keep access until the end of the period you already paid for. If you were charged in error, refunds are also handled by the store: reportaproblem.apple.com for Apple, your order history in Play for Google.
If what you actually want is a system, not another subscription to forget
Testoman pulls nutrition, training and daily habits into a single score. We told you how cancelling works above — decide with that in hand.
On iPhone and iPad, step by step
- Open Settings and tap your name at the very top.
- Tap Subscriptions. (Can’t see it? App Store → profile icon → Subscriptions opens the same list.)
- Select the app from the list.
- Tap “Cancel Subscription” and confirm.
- Wait until the entry reads “Expires on …”. If you don’t see that line, the cancellation did NOT go through.
If the subscription was bought through Family Sharing on someone else’s Apple Account, it will not appear in your list — it has to be cancelled from the account that paid.
On Android, step by step
- Open the Play Store and tap your profile icon in the top right.
- Payments and subscriptions → Subscriptions.
- Select the app and tap “Cancel subscription”.
- Google asks for a reason; pick one and confirm.
- If the entry now shows an end date, you are done.
“I deleted the app but I’m still being charged”
This is the single most common misunderstanding, and the reason is structural: the subscription lives in your store account, not in the app. Removing the app only deletes files from your phone; it does not touch the recurring payment held by Apple or Google.
The same applies to deleting your account inside the app. Even then the store subscription stands on its own and has to be cancelled separately.
How to ask for a refund
Refunds are issued by the store, not by the company that made the app. On Apple, sign in at reportaproblem.apple.com, pick the charge and state your reason. On Google, go to Play Store → Payments and subscriptions → Budget and history, find the order and request a refund.
Both stores decide according to their own policy, so a refund is never guaranteed. The sooner you ask, the better your chances.
Cancelling a free trial
A trial turns into a paid subscription automatically when it ends. You do not have to wait for that date to cancel: cancel now and you keep access until the trial ends, with no charge afterwards.
Practical rule: the day you start a trial, set a phone reminder for the day before it ends. A large share of complaints about these apps start with “I forgot about the trial”.
How not to end up here again
- Work out what the price comes to per year before you subscribe — weekly prices look small.
- Note how long the trial runs and the exact date it converts.
- Check whether the app states its cancellation path openly anywhere.
- Don’t subscribe to two similar apps in the same month; you will forget which one you actually use.
What this looks like in Testoman
To be straight with you: Testoman is a subscription too, and it is cancelled through exactly the same two paths above — in the store, not in the app. There is no separate “cancel” button inside the app, because Apple and Google take the payment and they hold the cancellation.
Deleting the app will not stop your subscription. Deleting your account entirely is a separate action, and the steps for it are on our account deletion page.
We show no ads and we don’t run a hidden counter in a free tier; in exchange, the core of the app needs a subscription. That is a choice, and we’re stating it in the middle of the page rather than at the bottom.
Frequently asked questions
Does deleting the app cancel the subscription?
No. The subscription sits in your store account; removing the app does not stop billing. You have to cancel through Settings → Subscriptions on iPhone or Play Store → Subscriptions on Android.
Do I lose access immediately when I cancel?
No. You keep access until the end of the period you have already paid for; it simply does not renew on that date.
If I cancel a free trial, do I lose the rest of it?
You don’t. Access runs to the trial’s end date, and it does not convert to a paid plan.
The app isn’t in my subscriptions list — what now?
It was most likely bought on a different account (Family Sharing, a second account on the phone), or paid for outside the app stores. For payments taken outside the stores, cancellation happens on that company’s own website.
I was charged but never subscribed. What should I do?
First check the subscription list and purchase history on your store account — the record is usually there. If there is none, report the charge to your bank and open a request through the store’s refund form.
